By pointing my Linux Server to an outside DNS, I can use that for update and such, while still using the Pi-Hole as the Recursive DNS for the rest of my network. I was able to find a bit of a work around. 127.0.1.1 webserver 127.0.0.1 pihole-server ' This nag goes away and I get another warning 'Warning in DNSMASQ core: not giving name pihole-server.lan to the DHCP lease of 192.168.1.251 because the name exists in /etc/hosts with address 127.0.0. does anyone have any other suggestions regarding this situation? Am I worried for nothing? Any help would be great. I have read some people have success with allowing the Pi-Hole to do DHCP. I am having a great time with playing around with all of this, and am really enjoying having my own custom DNS server. It seems to return a series of errors regarding "failure to fetch" archive files due to being unable to resolve 'us.' I ran the command sudo apt update to try and update the app repository, I think that is the correct term. The issue I am having, is that my Ubuntu server does not seem to be able to access the internet. ![]() Solution: Check the HostName of the System. I was not interested in this functionality, but was interested in using it as a recursive DNS server, which can be done by doing some reconfiguring. I installed Ubuntu server 20.04.2 onto the machine and am using Pi-Hole, which is used to block the ip address of ads on most websites. Save the file, exit, reboot & sudo should quit complaining. Where somehostname matches the contents of /etc/hostname as above. Add the following line to the end of the file: 127.0.1.1 somehostname. I recently turned a recycled 2012 Macbook pro into a recursive DNS. But it seems that your /etc/hosts file may be missing an entry we'll add it as follows: Using your favorite editor, e.g. ![]()
